REScheck is a scaled down way for builders, in Michigan, to verify whether or not they are meeting the current version of the energy code. REScheck is an approach that is very close to following the prescriptive path to meeting the code. In some cases a home that is failing the REScheck will pass under the HERS Index Rating approach. REScheck paperwork can be completed by anyone including the builder themselves. The HERS Index Rating needs to be done by a certified HERS Index Rater, which means they are trained in building science.
